Margaret Linn has been performing in every possible venue and situation in the Pacific Northwest, and on the national and international stage for 40 years
A songwriter, arranger, performer, recording artist and producer, Margaret expresses compelling technique and innovation. As she understands and satisfies the demands of many musical forms, her style remains her own.
Margaret began singing early with her siblings and forming small groups. Her childhood home was a State of Oregon group home for children and gathering place for the greater community. This diverse and revolving environment meant a constant and varied influx of records, radio and live music that brought to light the soul of her musical community.
“Young people often came to our house with nothing but their clothes and their record albums; the totems of their joy in the face of abandonment and trauma” recalls Margaret.
Margaret’s sister Mary joined her and they went on to develop a solid reputation as performers and backup singers. The Linn Sisters became a force in the core of Portland’s music scene and for national acts that led to their contributions on scores of both media and album projects
With their brother John, they formed a seven-piece soul band and went on to perform original pop music. After touring they began recording in LA with producer David Pack (Ambrosia) and worked on their first label sponsored album. John later joined a grammy nominated production team.
In the following years Margaret seized the opportunity to go deeper into her musical interests of jazz, blues, gospel, Brazilian, salsa and other forms. She most enjoys putting all her wealth of experience into her expression and depth as an artist. She wants her music to not only entertain, but to echo her own cultural roots and make a therapeutic impact on her listeners.
“Like a bird in spring, I want to bring an old-world soulful sound with a fresh perspective.
…Margaret Linn has an acquisitively soulful and rich voice that draws me in every time I hear her. She has a palette of vocal colors that can cover any musical canvas like it’s nobody’s business…..”
-David Pack, Ambrosia
'“I have known and worked with Margaret Linn for over a decade now. She has been nothing but the best, in terms of being both a quality singer and human being. . . and all in one attractive package.”
